We are ministers of reconciliation
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (ESV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Did you know that if you are in Christ, then you are a minister? No robes are required and no degrees needed. The divide between clergy (preachers and ordained people) and laity (non-ordained people like you and me) is obliterated in Christ. All you need is a deposit, the Spirit of God living within you, which is the free gift of God to all who put their faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:13-14). Furthermore, when we are indwelled by the Spirit of God, we receive gifts that equip us for specific tasks that Christ has prepared, in advance, for us to accomplish. Without ever setting foot on a plane or leaving our native soil, we instantaneously become missionaries.
Christ also sets us back into a right relationship with God when we put our trust in Him. We now get to enjoy fellowship with our Creator who loves us and conceived of us. Reconciliation takes place! As believers, we are then gifted and empowered to be ambassadors for him, bringing that message of reconciliation and being agents of transformation in our spheres of influence. It is our privilege and responsibility to participate in God’s work of equipping believers to share (and live out) the Gospel and reaching non-believers with the Gospel. We have become ministers of reconciliation!
